Abstract
Paratuberculosis has never been recorded before in Faroe Islands.
One sheep with symptoms of paratuberculosis was killed and the diagnosis was confirmed by microscopy and cultivation at the State Veterinary Serum Laboratory, Copenhagen.
The disease was caused by an orange-pigmented strain of Mycobacterium paratuberculosis.
Research will be carried out to find how widespread the disease is and how the morbidity is under the speciel circumstances in Faroe Islands.
