Abstract
The most recent kommuna (local authority district) to be subdivided according to the provisions of the Faroese Local Authority Act of 1872 is that of Nes ecclesiastícal parish. The procedure is described in this article and illustrated with examples from the subdivision of other local authority districts. The unusual features of this latest subdivision — through isolated examples are known from certain earlier instances — were that a referendum was required for splitting an ecclesiastical parish; and that the
boundary was not drawn to correspond with the territorial limits of the village commonwealths concerned.
