Abstract
The present article deals wlth a glaoial deposit facing the coast of Borðoyarvík near Klakksvík. The deposit consists of till, separated into an upper and a lower part by intercalated, thin lenticular layers of fine, slightly stratified, firm clay or sand. The upper till frequently contains shingle and pebbles which are not to be seen in the lower till. The intercalated clay bed contains remnants of wood, probably driftwood (Picea or Larix). Furthermore there are marane diatoms (Paralia), pollen of Empetrum
and Gramineae in great number, some pollen grains of birch and a few pollen grains of pine and hazel. The wood has been radiocarbon dated to > 30.000 years. The upper till shows a retreat and later advance of the ice front. The clay bed, probably of interglacial origin, is secondarily deposited.
