Abstract

This book presents new anthropological texts about the Faroe Islands. The articles discuss culture and identity, social
structure and rituals, religion and masculinity, etc. The aim of the book is to propose new perspectives – based on recent empirical research – on the culture of the insular society in the Northwestern corner of Europe. All the texts focus on the shift from tradition to modernity and from local to global in Faroese society. The book contributes to the scientific understanding of a small-scale society that is different from other Nordic societies, but still influenced by the same global processes of change.
