Abstract

Faroese national dress has never before been so widely used and so elegant. It is commonly worn on formal occasions and at
a variety of social events and functions. This article presents excerpts from written sources back to the 17th century which
mention or describe Faroese clothing. From these sources it can be seen that, apart from certain minor changes, traditional Faroese dress is much the same today as it has always been.
