Abstract

The present paper is based on 1088 24-hours dietary interviews with 331 persons. This is the first nutritional investigation in
the Faroes since 1936. The Faroese consume less milk and meat but more fish than most other affluent societies. The trend of
increasing fat consumption has been even more conspicuous in the Faroes than in England and the U.S. The P:S ratio is
slightly higher than in Denmark probably owing to the 10% amount of fat from marine origin in the Faroese diet. The diet
of the 11-18 year old deviates from the average and is of inferior quality.
