Abstract
The present paper deals with volcanic necks observed in the Faroes: 2 in Koltur, 1 in Vágar, 1 in Streymoy, 1 in Kallsoy, 1 in Borðoy, and 3 in Viðoy. It is pointed out that all of them have been observed in the Middle Basalt Sequence, and it is supposed that they have been feeding this sequence. Besides it is pointed out that the necks observed are situated along the NW—SE oriented fiords, and that earlier desscribed eruption fissures, supposed to have been feeding the Lower Basalt Sequence, are also following the fiord direction. Consequently it is supposed that the above-mentioned necks are situated on and along old fissures, and that the fiords possible is determined by the NV—SE direction of these fissures.
