Abstract
The article gives a preliminary survey of the measurements of precipitation and outflow made by Højgaard S. Schultz and the staff at the Fossá power station, Vestmanna, during the period 1952—57. The measurements were made partly at the point of impact of the power station, in the levels 300 and 400 north of Vestmanna, partly at the power station itself. The measurements show that the precipitation is about 50 per cent bigger in level 400 than in level 5, corresponding to an addition in height of 0.125 per cent per metre. Moreover, the measurements show that the precipitation registered by the used pluviometers is about 15 per cent too little, and that a shifting in the flow-off is taking place from spring to autumn, probably on account of vertical minor joints and the porous intrabasaltic material.
