Abstract
Prenatal growth rates show species differences. Blue whales grow fastest and other whales slower. All Primates grow at the same rate. The Grind whale which is our slowest growing Mammal growes only little faster than Primates. The growth rates are genetically determined. The pituitary growth hormone is important for the prenatal growth, which also needs carbohydrate. All mammalian foetuses have a spare carbohydrate unavailable to the mother. Whales like Ungulates have fructose.
